About Brightlands Chemelot Campus
Brightlands Chemelot Campus in Sittard-Geleen is een uniek innovatief ecosysteem in de wereld van groene chemie, circulaire materialen en biomedische toepassingen met 130 bedrijven, 3.000 medewerkers en 1.000 studenten. Samen met Chemelot Industrial Park vormt Brightlands Chemelot Campus één van de grootste onderzoeks- en bedrijvenparken in Europa.
Anieke Thomassen is Manager of Building Services within Brightlands and, together with her team, is responsible for the management of the Campus real estate. Compliance is a part of that.
What was the reason for Brightlands to start working with Compliance?
Brightlands needs insight into the assurance of laws and regulations for all assets to which legislation applies. Consider, for example, the safety of critical installations in relation to chemical business processes. In addition, we have added internal laws and regulations for the specific situation at Brightlands.
In recent years, we have used the Safety Register application, a joint application from software developer Spacewell and Melford. However, this application was replaced earlier this year by a new version called Compliance. That was a reason for us to see if this new application met our needs.
What are your findings with Compliance?
Compliance comes with many new functionalities and overviews that align well with our requirements. Compliance gives us insight into which laws and regulations our buildings and assets must meet. The software can also provide suggestions on which legislation applies based on the NL/SfB main group code.
We can now provide tenants with insight into their own domains based on roles. In addition, we can use a Dashboard to indicate the extent to which their domain complies with relevant laws and regulations. Compliance also works well with our other applications such as O-Prognose, Facilitor, and PowerBI.

How did the implementation and setup of Compliance go?
The Spacewell team helped us with the transition from the Safety Register application to Compliance. During the implementation, there was close cooperation in the setup and population of the necessary building and asset data and documents.

Good building maintenance and making the right decisions can only be done on the basis of substantiated data. Insight into planning, expected maintenance costs, and assurance of compliance are essential for us as a campus. Staying informed and ensuring compliance with all applicable maintenance and safety regulations is a major challenge. Spacewell Compliance helps us gain visibility and control over, for example, permits, licenses, and certifications, and gives us a ‘360 view’ of our real estate portfolio.
