Accessibility is no longer an abstract topic in digital product development. For many organisations, it has become a practical requirement when selecting and using software. Users work in different ways, rely on different tools, and expect interfaces that support those differences.

At Spacewell, WCAG 2.2 accessibility is an important part of how we design and improve our digital solutions. We see accessibility not as a one-time compliance task, but as an ongoing commitment to inclusive and responsible software development.

Throughout 2025, our teams took concrete steps to improve accessibility across several Spacewell products. This work will continue in 2026 as standards evolve and as we further embed accessibility into our processes.

How Spacewell approaches WCAG accessability

In 2025, Spacewell launched dedicated accessibility optimisation initiatives across multiple solutions within our portfolio. The goal was clear: better understand where we stand today and take meaningful steps to improve usability for a wider range of users.

For our Workplace, Asset and Energy applications, including web, iOS, and Android, we partnered with external accessibility specialists who conducted independent accessibility assessments based on WCAG 2.2 AA guidelines. These assessments were followed by accessibility improvements. Re-tests were completed later to measure progress.

For Cardan, these accessibility assessments focus on selected user flows and screens rather than a full WCAG 2.2 review, to provide targeted improvements without implying complete standard compliance.

These assessments gave our product and development teams a clear foundation for prioritisation and continuous improvement.

WCAG accessibility improvements across Spacewell solutions

Our accessibility work in 2025 focused on practical changes that improve everyday usability. Rather than isolated fixes, we concentrated on areas that have a broad impact across the user experience.

Key focus areas included:

  • Improved keyboard accessibility, allowing users to navigate and operate functionality without a mouse
  • Clear and visible focus indicators to support predictable navigation
  • Enhanced screen reader support through improved structure and labelling
  • Improved colour contrast to increase readability across different screens
  • Accessible text alternatives for icons and visual elements

In the Asset application, additional attention was given to keyboard navigation and focus behaviour, including logical focus order and preventing keyboard traps. In the Energy solution, accessibility improvements were applied to dashboards, analytics, analysis pages, and several newer configuration screens.

These improvements help make our digital solutions more accessible to users with different needs, preferences, and assistive technologies.

Our ongoing commitment to digital accessibility

WCAG 2.2 accessibility is not a final destination. It is a continuous process that evolves alongside technology, user needs, and regulatory requirements.

Going forward, Spacewell will continue addressing remaining accessibility issues and work towards achieving WCAG 2.2 Level AA across our key solutions, while ensuring that new features are developed with WCAG guidelines in mind. Accessibility considerations are increasingly becoming part of how we design, build, and review our digital solutions.

Our goal is to deliver software that is usable, inclusive, and accessible for as many people as possible. Step by step, we continue working towards that goal.
